This prototype transceiver is designed to be ultra cheap while being highly expandable and capable of intercommunication with one another. The transceiver is Arduino based, which allows it to interface with multiple sensors, switches, motors, lights and more. The current prototype allows for up to 256 addressable sensors to be included in the network with a variable range of 3 meters to 300 meters. The current system is designed to interface with either processing or openFrameworks, giving it the capability of data visualization and internet communication. As the project is finalized more information and schematics will become available through our blog. The transceiver is a 5v system that runs off of a battery. In the walkthrough example you see some of the Arduino code which allows each sensor to know who it's neighbor sensors are in the network and to daisy chain that information to the server.
This site was developed to be the home for Art Center College of Design's Graduate Studies program, Criticism and Theory. The design concept and methodology is based on the practice of writing - which is the basis of the program. Art Center wanted a simple to update site, however did not want to go as far as having a Content Management System developed. Therefore, we built a simple text based system to update the flash content, requiring only changing the text file associated with each page.
